Alpensolar Human e.V. has chosen to support and promote the concept of ‚Food Banks’ (Africa) in 2011. To further enhance the project’s overall success Alpensolar has decided to double every donation received by Alpensolar Human e.V.

The Food Bank – Concept
IAlmost every year (often even several times a year!) extreme hot spells and floods threaten and often devastate a substantial share (if not all) of Africa’s local food supply. As a consequence, many already extremely poor people are damned to buy food externally at horrendously expansive prices, often further staking their own lifes.

By building a ‚Food Bank’ a town invests in its own food storage thus actively making provisions for ‚hard times’. While the costs for the materials to build the ‚Bank’ amount to only 1.000 € (financed by donations), ‚Operational Blessing’ (charitable organisation) will be in charge to obtain the materials as well as instruct the local inhabitants about how to build the storage. In the end and at a cost of approx. 3.000 € (donations), the ‚Food Bank’ will be completely filled with food (usually millet) bought from the local community. The storage will be locked and guarded by local community heads until a food shortage occurs. In such a scenario, the people in charge open the ‚Food Bank’ to sell its content at normal/affordable prices to the starving population. Once the shortage is over the people in charge will use the money earned to re-fill the storage at normal/affordable prices thus provisioning again for the next shortage.

With this simple concept, a one-off investment of approx. 4.000 € helps to sustainably improve the living conditions and savety of up to 3.000 inhabitants over many, many years. Being supported and promoted by ‚Operation Blessing’, the concept has successfully proved itself globally. Alpensolar Human e.V. maintains a close partnership with ‚Operation Blessing’.

As a consequence, at a cost of only 2.000 € you can get your ‚own’ ‚Food Bank’ with your name printed on site, a picture with local inhabitants in front of ‚your’ storage and your ‚own’ receipt of donation issued by Alpensolar Human e.V. Furthermore, Alpensolar Human e.V. will be on site in person (at own costs) to help with the building/organisation and to make sure that every donated cent will be used to maximise the projects’ final outcome.
